She reached Salem in the evening. She walked through the streets. There was not much change in this one year. Few of her neighbors identified her and stared at her. She thought that it was usual. But to her dismay , she could not see her house. It was half burnt. She stood there in front of her home not knowing what to do and whom to ask.
Just then her friend Malli came and hugged her.
“Malli, what happened to my house? where is my father and mother?”
“Kamini… Kamini.. where were you all these days? we tried to search you but in vain and told her what happened.
On hearing it, Kamini burst out . She felt that the earth beneath her was moving apart. She could not stand anymore. She cried aloud. But no one came to comfort her. The day Kamini left , on reading her letter her father and mother burnt themselves to death.
Kamini could not take this shock. She knew that she was responsible for the death of her parents. Because of her desire not only she ruined her life but also the life of her parent who had dreams about her. Now , she had no one to comfort her. She felt thirsty . There was no one to give her even a glass of water. She cried with all her strength all night.
She went inside her home which was half burnt. She could not tolerate the pain of loneliness. She was feeling guilty .
Suddenly, everyone came out of their houses hearing Kamini yell. They could see Kamini running out. She had burnt herself. They informed ambulance and police. But , before they could arrive Kamini had died.
The police got a letter from inside her house.
It was written.
“ My desire had burnt my life and my family and now to burn my desire I am burning my self”
