“Santha, clean all these vessels and sweep the room soon. Why are you late today?” asked Radhika to her maidservant
“Amma, I am admitting my daughter at school today. So it took time to make her ready” replied Santha
Revathy peeped from behind her mother with a smile on her face.
“Oh, but don’t be late again” saying these words Radhika went to hall calling her son Ajay.
“Revathy you sit here. Amma will finish the work soon and take you to school”, said Santha as she gently patted her daughter.
“Ajay, what is this? You have to wake-up early. See now its getting late.” Radhika was advising her son who is studying in Third class.
But Ajay never listened to his mother words. He was just curiously seeing her Maid’s daughter. He smiled at her. Revathy too smiled back after a little thought.
“Ajay, don’t stand and waste your time. Get ready soon”. shouted Radhika
“Amma, I had done with my work. Shall I leave?” asked Santha
“Santha, What is this? You finished your work so soon?, See the floor is not properly mopped. Clean it”
Santha went to clean hurriedly. She was in a hurry to finish the work and take her daughter to school.
Just then Revathy , saw the small pencil box that Ajay had and took that in her little hands to examine it.
“Santha, see what your daughter is doing. She is meddling with the things. Don’t bring her hereafter when you come to work” said Radhika with a frown.
Saying these words she grabbed the pencil box from Revathy and put that in Ajay’s bag and asked him to start to school.
Revathy was puzzled by this attitude of Radhika. She put her head down.
Ajay saw the sadness that swept in that little girl’s eyes when her mother grabbed the pencil box.
He took his pencil box from the bag and went near Revathy.
“Ajay , what are you doing?” asked Radhika with bewilderment.
“Amma, I have another one too. Let she have this.” Saying this he handed over the pencil box to Revathy.
Revathy looked up at Ajay with an innocent and grateful smile.
